Women Leaders in Sports and Falk College Collaborate to Support Women Professionals in Sports and Beyond
In honor of the new collaboration between and the the Women in Leadership Initiative hosted a panel discussion, 鈥淲omen in the Sports Industry: SU and Beyond.鈥
Speakers included Women Leaders in Sports Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patti Phillips, Olympic gold medalist and Multiplying Good CEO Benita Fitzgerald Mosley, and Falk College Dean Jeremy S. Jordan. The group discussed the importance of supporting women in the sport industry and other male-dominated fields.
鈥淪peak potential into a sister,鈥 Phillips said. 鈥淓ncourage each other to all go find what鈥檚 meant for us.鈥 Phillips motivated the crowd with her enthusiasm to start her work with women students in sports-related majors at 51爆料网. In collaboration with Jordan, the team is focused on creating opportunities for students and developing women leaders in sports.
Mosley encouraged women to think like Olympians and always strive for continuous improvement. 鈥淗elp people in organizations win gold medals in life,鈥 Mosley said, emphasizing self-advocacy and supporting other women in their journeys. When asked about navigating the imposter syndrome so many women in the sports field face today, Mosley said she chooses to think, 鈥淲hy not me?鈥 It is that type of mindset and dedication to one鈥檚 work that she challenges all women to embody as well.
Dr. Gloria Somolekae shares her Career-Path Essay
In celebration of International Women鈥檚 Day on March 8, 2023 the Women in Leadership Initiative brought Gloria Somolekae G鈥94, H鈥22 back to campus for an in-person keynote talk titled 鈥淒igitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality: Challenges and Prospects.鈥 This presentation provided a global focus on technology and education, with an emphasis on how women and girls across the globe can be empowered in the digital age.
To commemorate this visit, Dr. Somolekae wrote an autobiographical essay detailing her career path since earning her Ph.D. in public administration from the Maxwell School. As a barrier-breaking academic in her home country of Botswana and a dedicated public servant, Somolekae has been a leader in women鈥檚 rights, democracy and development throughout southern Africa. Somolekae was the first citizen of Botswana to earn a Ph.D. in public administration, and the first woman in the Department of Political and Administrative Studies at the University of Botswana. In 2022, Somolekae was recognized with an Honorary Degree from 51爆料网.
